In 1947, Diane Hendricks handcrafted a Raggedy Ann doll. She asked her husband Bill, a USMCR officer, to donate the doll to a charity that would give her to a child in need. Unable to find such an organization, Diane told Bill that he should start one. Toys for Tots was born out of a spirit of giving of oneself, and today brings the joy of Christmas to millions of children across the country.

As crafters, we know how fun and satisfying it is to make and give a handmade present, especially when the recipient is a child. Remembering back to our own girlhoods, some of our most cherished gifts were handmade clothes for our beloved dollies. Whether they were made by moms, grandmas, aunts, or even purchased from craft bazaars, they were unique and special, just like the women who created them.

I am determined and committed to create at least 10 skirts between now and December 15th to donate to Toys for Tots for all of those little girls that will be receiving dolls this christmas. It will be a combination of both the dolly wrap skirt and dolly twirl skirt.

I also have a few other neat toys to handcraft as well including a chef's hat and apron . How much fun would that be to have your very own set?

If you would like to make a donation, contributing just cents or even $1.00 or whatever you can (anything will help) will help me to gather supplies even new patterns, in order to create handmade toys and accessories for both boys and girls alike this christmas. All items created will be showcased on the website  to show what SouthernBabies was able to create and donate to Toys for Tots 2008 this Christmas. I will also be giving each person that contributes a special discount code worth 50% off or a $5.00 gift certificate (your choice) to SouthernBabies just to say Thank you for caring for others this holiday season.

In addition to Toys for Tots donations, I will also be donating outfits, hair bows  and handmade christmas stockings to local charities for children and foster care.
